The Slippery Slope By Lemony Snicket
Plot Summary: The tenth book of A Series of Unfortunate Events-The Slippery Slope by Lemony Snicket is the book where Sunny was kidnapped by the evil villain, Count Olaf. Count Olaf, his girlfriend, and his troupe has kidnapped Sunny to travel up a mountain called the Mortmain Mountains. They had been trying to get there to find the V.F.D. headquarters, which is a place where the Baudelaire's parents had worked before they died. The reason they have been trying to get there is because they wanted to burn it down so it will destroy evidence of Count Olaf and his evil works. He also wanted to try to get the Baudelaire's fortune which was not successful because the Baudelaires had managed to be one step ahead of him and defeat him. Violet and Klaus had both been left behind by Count Olaf because he had thrown them off a trailer that was attached to the back of the car but one of the assistants had detached it and let them go off the road in the beginning. They both had managed to stop the trailer and follow the car and soon after, Violet and Klaus had managed to start going up the mountains where they had encountered a friend that they had first met. When they reached to the top they had found Count Olaf and everyone else, but to their surprise Count Olaf and his assistants had managed to burn the headquarters. Although the Baudelaires did not make it they had gotten back to Sunny, where they had time to escape and go off to the next trip, to the Hotel Denouement which was the last place that would lead them to the last mystery of the their parents and V.F.D.
Theme: Loyalty and courage is the theme of the book, because of the way the Baudelaire's have treated each other. All three Baudelaires have worked very hard to not frustrate each other, they have always managed to stay together as a family, they have all tried hard enough to be together. Although they had kidnapped the youngest Baudelaire they tried there very best to get her back. They have all been very brave to do anything they can to be safe as one. The Baudelaires have all been smart to do anything they can to go on through their terrible journey. This theme makes me learn to always stick up for the people who I care about the most.
Favorite Quote: "Fate is like a strange, unpopular restaurant filled with odd waiters who bring you things you never asked for and don't always like." is my favorite quote from the book. This is my favorite quote because I could relate to it from my life. Everyone has a difficult life that always leads them to different paths through the way and I feel that this tells me something about how I feel about life. Every journey I have in my life makes me have a better life or a little bit worse. When I read this quote I really understood what they were saying and how important it was to me to understand it as I read it.
Recommendation: I recommend this book for everyone because of the great mystery of the book. You will have to read the one through nine books then after the tenth, you will need the eleventh through thirteenth to really understand and like these books. Each journey the Baudelaires have been in they have always tried there best to get out of trouble. They have had terrible moments after their parents death and each book tells each terrible story they had each day in sadness. These books are very good to people who could read and will excite you each book that comes after another.
